With the playoffs getting started this weekend, several players will have the chance to make one final impression on the voters for when it’s time to announce individual awards. This of course includes the covered MVP honor. In this piece we have NFL MVP picks for 2021 season with Aaron Rodgers favored. Will the Packers star make it back-to-back MVP awards this winter?
Aaron Rodgers is no doubt our pick to win MVP
To make things clear from the start, Aaron Rodgers is no doubt our pick to win MVP when it’s announced on Feb. 10. What Rodgers has been able to do this season with Green Bay has been remarkable. Rodgers powered Green Bay to a 13-4 regular season record, which powered them to the No. 1 seed in the NFC postseason, plus a bye for the Wild Card Round.
Now, the Packers are going to have home-field advantage throughout the playoffs, which means a trip to the Super Bowl for the NFC has to go through Lambeau Field. If Rodgers is able to overcome last year’s postseason problems and get this team to the final, then there’s no way in hell he shouldn’t take home the MVP honors. He’s been the class of the league once again.
In the regular season, Rodgers ended up throwing for 4,115 yards, 37 touchdowns and only four interceptions. Those numbers are sensational. While the TDs are one thing, the fact that he only tossed four picks is wild. Looking ahead to the playoffs, Rodgers will be ready to keep things rocking and continue with his strong play for head coach Matt LaFleur.
TJ Watt should 100 percent win Defensive Player of the Year in the NFL
On the other side of the ball, Pittsburgh Steelers star pass-rusher TJ Watt should 100 percent win Defensive Player of the Year in the NFL this February. This campaign, Watt made history, as he recorded 22.5 sacks. That number tied the record for most in a season with Hall of Famer Michael Strahan, who is best known for his incredible work with the New York Giants.
For Watt to tie Strahan here was epic. Watt landed his massive payday from the Steelers recently and he made the front office look brilliant with the move. Now, Watt and the Steelers will hope to surprise plenty of folks in the postseason. In the Wild Card Round, they’ll head to Kansas City to try and take down the heavily-favored Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes.
In order for the Steelers to have a chance, they’ll of course need Watt to apply pressure early and often on Mahomes. Mahomes himself is in the middle of another big year, and he’s hoping to get the Chiefs back to the Super Bowl for the third consecutive season. Watt, Minkah Fitzpatrick and others will look to make his life difficult come this weekend.
Per the oddsmakers, Watt holds the top odds for DPOY at -350. Behind him with the odds is Micah Parsons, Aaron Donald, Myles Garrett, Trevon Diggs and others. Parsons is a lock to win Defensive Rookie of the Year, but we don’t think he’ll have what it takes to take down Watt for the main honor. Yup, we’re going with Watt to win Defensive Player of the Year.
Dak Prescott deserves NFL Comeback Player of the Year
Another major award that people have their focus on is the NFL Comeback Player of the Year. For us, there’s no question that Dak Prescott deserves NFL Comeback Player of the Year for 2021, as he has been instrumental in the Dallas Cowboys not only getting back to the postseason, but also dominating division play this year and winning the NFC East.
During the regular season, Prescott ended up throwing for 4,449 yards, 37 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. In Week 18 this past Saturday night, Prescott lit up the field by throwing for five touchdowns. This was great to see, especially with the Dallas offense looking a little sluggish in recent weeks. Now, Prescott will hope to put on great performances in the playoffs.
Others in contention include Joe Burrow and Nick Bosa. The two suffered big injuries themself, but they’ve managed to get back on the field this year and look fantastic. The difference could be made once the postseason arrives, but heading into things, Prescott is the favorite to come out on top. We’re confident Prescott will win in this case.
